Group Sizes
I try to keep the group sizes at around 3 kids to make sure that kids get an adequate amount of attention, and so I can monitor their safety better.
Lesson Length
Lessons are 30 minutes long, as this is amount of time seems best to maximize childrens' attention spans.
.
Child Ages
I can teach children ages 2 and up. I have never taught adult lessons before, but I am willing to consider it.
Group vs. Private Lessons
I teach group lessons as well as private lessons. When I taught at Bally's I mostly taught group lessons, but I did also occasionally teach private lessons. There are several advantages to doing group lessons, first the cost is lower, second kids actually tend to do better in group lessons because they can learn by watching other children, and third kids tend to have more fun. However, if your child is really scared of the water, or gets too distracted by other children, or would otherwise require a lot of attention, private lessons should probably be considered.
Lesson Levels
Lesson Levels
I teach 3 levels of swimming lessons, to account for different levels of ability. If your child has some experience in the water, we can test him or her to see which level he or she should start at.
- To be comfortable in the water
- Proper pool safety and pool rules
- To do head-bobs while blowing air out the nose
- To float on the stomach and back
- Arrow kicking on the stomach and back
- swimming in deeper water
- A basic crawl stroke
- The freestyle stroke with side breathing
- The backstroke
- Side kicking
- The breaststroke
- The butterfly stroke
- To tread water
- To do flip turns
- Basic dives
Level Placement
I prefer to place children by their ability level, rather than by age; however, if you would like to keep siblings together that can be arranged. Just be aware that if you ask to place your child by age rather than by ability, then that child may have difficulty keeping up with the other children.
